party Garden, Saltford
‘Californian cool’ was the brief for this garden near Bath which had previously been populated by a huge collection of conifers. All of these were removed apart from a single blue cedar which forms a strong focal point from the kitchen. On entering the garden, a large concrete forecourt gridded with strips of grass is separated from the house by a shallow pool, over which a concrete bridge provides access. Elsewhere expansive lawns are contrasted with more intimate entertaining spaces - a sunken garden flanked by bamboo and tactile grasses and a sedum-roofed outdoor kitchen complete with pizza oven.
