Karena Batstone Design is an innovative landscape design practice known for creating elegant contemporary gardens that are a balance between controlled geometric forms and naturalistic planting. Since establishing the practice in 1992, Karena and her associates have designed numerous gardens and installations in the UK and abroad, from private urban courtyards and roof terraces through gardens for schools and hospitals, to large country gardens and high-profile commercial landscapes.

For clients she aims is to make the process interactive, stimulating and enjoyable, and to offer a professional service that exceeds expectations. Karena regularly collaborates with architects, interior designers, artists and other landscape professionals to develop integrated landscape designs. The practice has strong working relationships with suppliers in the industry and with extensive knowledge of landscaping materials, plants and furniture it is able to create designs that maximize clients’ budgets.

Karena has taught landscape design at the English Gardening School and co-authored A Handbook for Garden Designers with Rosemary Alexander. Her work has been featured in a number of publications and on TV. She has written for the gardening press, including The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Times and has won a number of awards including a Society of Garden Designers People’s Choice Award and a Civic Trust Award for the landscaping at the New Education Centre, The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in Regent’s Park.
